Mini Piling
Mini piling describes piles that are 75 to 400mm diameter and most often constructed using very compact equipment. Mini piles are generally constructed with deep rock sockets and can be highly reinforced and so be able to carry much larger tension and compression loads than their small diameter suggests, with capacities up to 4000kN being achieved. The lateral and shear capacity of individual mini piles is primarily determined by their small diameter but the flexibility of the equipment allows rakers, tight pile groups and permanent casing all to be easily used to increase their lateral and shear capacity.
Mini piles are used where access is not available for conventional piling equipment. This includes limited headroom, where equipment needs to be craned into position, where access is very tightly restricted and where ventilation is limited. Mini piles can be constructed through all ground conditions including granular and cohesive soils, all rock types and where difficult fill needs to be penetrated, e.g. concrete slabs and demolition rubble. Our mini piling techniques also allow piles to be constructed where artesian head exists, e.g. through the floor of tanked basements.
Our experience of mini piles includes work in, around and below existing buildings, bridges, residential towers and marine mini piles. Our restricted access mini piling plant is some of the most flexible and powerful available in Australia and includes electrically powered rigs.
